FUEL CELL HYDROGEN SYSTEM FOR AIRCRAFT
    EMERGENCY OPERATION

THE FLHYSAFE PROJECT

FLHYSAFE (Fuel celL HYdrogen System for AircraFt Emergency
Operation) is a collaborative research project awarded 5,1 Million
Euro funding from the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen 2 Joint Undertaking
(now Clean Hydrogen Partnership)
under the European Horizon 2020 framework programme for
Research and Innovation.

FLHYSAFE’S OVERALL OBJECTIVE

Started in January 2018 and lasting 5.5 years, FLHYSAFE‘s overall
objective is to demonstrate that the current Ram Air Turbine of a
commercial aircraft can be replaced by a fuel cell based modular
system able to increase functionality and safety while reducing costs.
The project will also demonstrate that such fuel cell based modular
system can be integrated into current aircraft design and comply with
mass and volume requirements and maintenance constraints.

FLHYSAFE’S OVERALL OBJECTIVE

Started in January 2018 and lasting over 4 years, FLHYSAFE‘s overall objective is to demonstrate that the current Ram Air Turbine of a commercial aircraft can be replaced by a fuel cell based modular system able to increase functionality and safety while reducing costs.
The project will also demonstrate that such fuel cell based modular system can be integrated into current aircraft design and comply with mass and volume requirements and maintenance constraints.

FLHYSAFE CONSORTIUM

FLHYSAFE is coordinated by Safran Power Units (Yan DURANTEAU) and
brings together a multidisciplinary team with complementary expertise
of leading experts and key stakeholders covering the necessary
disciplines of fuel cell technology, battery development, end-user
application providers, testing and system integration. The FLHYSAFE
consortium is made of 6 organisations from 3 European countries which
include France (Safran Power Units, CEA,
ARTTIC), Germany (DLR, University of Ulm), and Spain (INTA).
